Should My Company be Spending Money on SEO?

So I had a great question today from a client, and the question was: Should I be spending more on what I’m doing in SEO? And the answer for most of us is probably yes. Some of us even need to think about starting our initial investment in SEO where maybe we’ve been doing a paid search strategy for a while. So, what’s the main outcome or opportunity that you’re going to find when you invest in SEO? There’s a couple of things that will happen.

You may see a long-term investment because SEO isn’t going to impact your search tomorrow. It may in some very specific circumstances where I’m going after a very unique opportunity that really represents my brand and my business or my product, and the way that people are searching for it. But generally, you’re going to see your results 30, 60, and 90 days out from when you started. So that investment is important to get started today so you can see those results at that point.

And then there’s long tail. Those results could be showing up for a year, a year and a half. It could provide you with more opportunities to go in and update current opportunities within existing blogs that are doing well that you want to add an update to because you’re seeing some good traffic opportunities. So, the ultimate answer is, yes. You should be investing in your SEO, but think of it as a long-term investment, not your paid search opportunity that’s going to drive clicks, maybe tomorrow.
