Instagram. The shining beacon of perfectly manicured photo content. Don’t be afraid. The opportunities are endless.
Let’s start with the basics:
- Instagram has over 800 MILLION monthly active users.
- Instagram users “like” over 4.2 BILLION posts per day–Thank you Kim, Kylie, Khloe and Kendall
- Instagrammers share 95 MILLION posts per day
Instagram is a plethora of content. Photo and video content that separates you from the competition. Instagram users want to be inspired, they follow their passions, they want to take action. They can be influenced by celebrities, social media influencers and brands very easily. What does this mean to your business? One of the easiest and most effective ways to connect with your customers, in real-time and authentically.
80% of users follow at least one brand on Instagram and 60% of those new users find new products on Instagram. Turning passions into purchases.
It sounds easy, and it can be. Just know that it can also be time consuming. Creating content takes research, time and a ton of patience, but it gets better. You know your customer best. Start by laying out the who, what, where, when and why of your customer spectrum.
Who are your customers: Are they primarily female? Sports fans? Income levels?
What are you trying to sell: Concrete? Event space? Widgets? Fans?
Where are you located: Multiple locations? Franchised? Brick and Mortar? Online?
When is your peak season: Spring? Summer? Fall? Winter?
Why do your current customers come to you and what keeps them coming back: Brand loyalty? Pricing?
A few tips before jumping right in:
- Develop a signature style—When people visit your page or begin following you, they have an idea of what they can expect for content.
- Stick to a color palette—Construction? Maybe a cooler theme works for you. Wedding event venue? Try neutral. Restaurant? Look for warmer themes.
- USE NATURAL LIGHT—Enough said.

However, Instagram photos from others who use your product or service are just as important if not more. We call this User-Generated Content, or UGC for short. Let your customers know to tag you in an Instagram photo, or create a unique hashtag and plaster that sucker everywhere! Within reason, of course. What does this do? It gives life and a face to your brand and the authentic passion that consumers want when making a purchasing decision.
Instagram is your brand’s highlight reel. So, choose wisely. 😊
